If I Can't See, I Can't Go
Emme has trouble finding the perfect spot to take care of business in the deep snow. Ken has shoveled a little "Princess Path" so Emme can go outside and not get buried in the snow. Emme has to sniff around to find the perfect spot to pee; finding the right spot for number 2 is a much more daunting chore. She gets down in the shoveled paths and can't see beyond the walls of snow. This seems to throw her off. I don't know if she feels especially vulnerable when she is in the position to take care of business or what the problem is. I just know that she hunkers down to begin and then pops up again to look around. Then she repeats this a few times until she just can't hold it any longer. I think she will be happy when this snow melts. If it ever does.

I think these little dogs like to feel "safe" when they do their business and know what's happening around them - and Chloe is like that too. It's been daunting going out - but we've managed. We're dealing with LOTS AND LOTS of snow piles. But they are getting smaller and smaller, just when another snow storm is about to come (on Monday).
She's probably expecting the Abominable Snowman to pop out and scare her to death. Can you imagine how freaky it would be to have a wall of snow towering over you. I wouldn't like it either! :) Poor little thing.
We had a bit of a scare with Silvieon4. She went from being fine to shaking, panting, whining and looking like she was deathly ill. We got scared enough to call the hotel vet [we were in DC on vacation]. I was literally terrified that this had to be a serious "condition" because I have never seen Silvie look so bad. The did not want to be held, touched.. it broke my heart. But as we waited for the vet... the problem resolved itself. Silvie only tinkles on grass. We could find no grass in DC as it is all under dirty ice and snow.
Silvie had to pee. Finally she did.
Apparently the pee pad was not good enough. She did it on a hotel towel. You know what? It was worth it. The vet chuckled and told us that well behaved dogs make themselves sick and some end up with bladder issue and blocked intestines. I drove out of the district to a park so Miss Silvie could find suitable grass...
